FAQ
Have questions?
Our FAQs walk you through how PopyLi works, how your information is protected, and how to get the most out of your experience.
For Students
How do I use PopyLi?
Just hit “Rate Now”, type in a classmate’s name, and give them a score from 1-6 on each question. Everything is 100% anonymous. You need to rate at least 6 colleagues for the system to “count” them, you can rate up to 100 students.
How much does this cost?
PopyLi is 100% free for students.
No credit card.
No hidden fees.
No subscription.
Nothing.
Can it damage my reputation if someone personally dislikes me? What stops harassment, revenge-rating, or targeted negativity?
Our system is built specifically to prevent personal bias or negativity from influencing your aggregated result. Here’s how we protect you:
No single person’s rating can meaningfully impact your result.
Your insights only come from large-scale patterns across many different peers.
Ratings must pass strict statistical checks to be counted.
Unbalanced, extreme, or obviously manipulative ratings are automatically flagged and
removed.
Written critiques are analyzed for patterns, not taken literally.
We look for consistency across groups, not isolated comments.
A single friend group cannot artificially inflate someone’s score – and a single
disgruntled person cannot tank anything.
Abuse is not tolerated.
If someone writes something derogatory, discriminatory, or harassing, they are
permanently banned from voting, and their comments and ratings are deleted.
Only strong, repeated patterns become part of your final aggregated insights.
Peer-rating systems work because they wash out extremes.
If you genuinely lift teams, many people see it.
If you consistently make collaboration difficult, many people see that too.
Your results reflect the real, broad consensus – not isolated opinions.
Can I opt out of being rated?
No. Just like you cannot stop people from writing restaurant reviews, teacher reviews, or sharing their real experiences with others, individuals are legally allowed to express opinions about collaborative work.
But here’s what makes PopyLi fundamentally different (and much safer):
Your data is never public.
No one ever sees individual comments or scores.
Everything anonymized.
We detach every rating from the person who submitted it.
Only aggregated insights are shown, and only if statistically valid.
You’re never exposed to “thin data” or one-off opinions.
You are protected from public judgment.
Unlike social media reviews or RateMyProfessor-style posts, nothing you receive is visible on the internet.
So, while you cannot stop others from rating their real experience with you, PopyLi protects you far more than any open public platform.
Is this a popularity contest? Is this like “hot-or-not”?
No – and here is why this is different:
Nothing is public.
No public rankings, no public lists, no “top students”, no visible scores.
Ratings cover teamwork, reliability, initiative, and collaboration – not looks or popularity.
Patterns matter, not isolated opinions.
You can have a few people who love you or dislike you – that isn’t what the system measures. Only broad, repeated, consistent patterns across many peers are used.
The system is built by organizational psychologists, not a social media company.
This is not gamified or designed for attention – it’s built for fairness, accuracy, and privacy.
Are universities involved? Can they stop me from using this?
No. Universities are not partners, cannot access the system, and have no control over it.
While some universities try to block access to PopyLi you can always use it on your phone using your data plan – minimum ratings take only about five minutes to complete. Schools can’t access your results or comments, and employers only see aggregated, anonymized insights processed securely by our system.
This is student-powered.
Can I give all my friends high scores?
Not really. To keep things fair, ratings need to be balanced. If all your scores look the same, our system will flag and ignore them.
What should I do if I take classes with more than one class year or major?
Use the group where you spend the most time and know people best. The more you’ve worked with someone, the more accurate your ratings will be.
Can I change a rating later?
Yup! Go to “People Rated”, pick the person, and update your score anytime before the deadline.
Until when can I rate or change my ratings?
Ratings close each summer at the end of the academic year. After that, everything locks in.
What is the “My Rating” option?
Coming soon! Regular users will be able to see some of the average ratings and feedback their classmates gave them – always anonymously. This will give you insight into how others see you as a teammate and collaborator. More details will be released soon.
